Turning travel inspiration into on-site flight search for Exceptional Alien

The problem

Exceptional Alien shares the travel stories of exceptional creators around the globe. The website was purely informational — there was no way for an inspired reader to take action and begin their travel booking journey without leaving the site. A partnership with Skyscanner set the goal: flight search, integrated on-site.

Our approach

We created a new set of Destination pages — curations of the top things to do in each location, all recommended by locals — with filters spanning Food & Drink, Culture, Retail, Nature, Design, Accommodation, Wellness, Neighbourhoods and Events, viewable as a grid or on an interactive map. We integrated the Skyscanner widget so users can search flights without being redirected, and treated page-load speed as the overarching challenge on such a content-heavy site.

The outcome

Readers can now move from inspiration to planning in one place — researching a destination and searching flight availability without ever leaving Exceptional Alien.
